Well I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this weeks results! As you remember, last week I planted spinach and radish seeds and planned on giving them light only from the LED grow light…no natural light for this “death expirement”! I’m really excited for you to see how well these are doing so far! I’m also including a video on how to thin radish seedlings which should come in handy whether growing indoors or out.
I’m a little late to getting the video posted but this video was recorded 8 days after planting the seeds. I was so surprised to see that almost all of the radish seeds had germinated! The spinach is definitely slower but I was seeing germination 🙂
Here are the details as to what I did this week (January 11 – 17):
- 16 hours of LED light (from 6:00AM – 10:00PM) daily
- Covered the radishes and spinach with a loose layer of plastic wrap to create a “greenhouse” effect to help seeds germinate
- Bottom watered the radish seeds by keeping about 1″ of water in the plasit container I set the pots in. Didn’t need to water the spinach seeds as they stayed nice and moist.
You can see the progress in the Week 1 video above. And here is the bonus video on how to thin radish seedlings:
