It feels like just yesterday I was walking down the aisle to the love of my life…our wedding day was perfection (and timeless…I seriously wouldn’t change a thing about it even after all these years!) Yet here we are, celebrating 10 years this month! I think this is probably one of our busiest years yet with kids and husband in school, good things happening for my husband at his job and my blogging taking off. So instead of taking off on some grand 10 year anniversary getaway (I told my hubby he can make up for it next year), we are instead taking the entire year to reconnect. The two of us have some fun mini adventures planned over the next year but to start I wanted to share a fun date night in idea.
I was recently approached by Gorton’s Seafood to share about their new Shrimp Bowls. You know who does love seafood and especially shrimp? That guy of mine I married 10 years ago. However I almost never make it for him. So when I had the chance to try Gorton’s Seafood Shrimp Bowls, I knew the perfect person who would eat up the opportunity!
The Gorton’s Seafood Shrimp Bowls are absolutely perfect for a date night in. Since they come in the freezer department you can stock up for an impromptu date night and have dinner ready in under 5 minutes. I got Louis the Black Garlic & Wine Risotto Shrimp Bowl and it smelled amazing while it was cooking in the microwave. And since this all-in-one meal cooks in the microwave in it’s own bowl there is no additional mess to clean up. Since I’m the one who does the cooking for date night in, this sounds like my kind of meal to make my guy!
So here is his reaction: It was flavorful but not over powering (probably a good thing when serving garlic on a date night!). He couldn’t believe it had real, whole shrimp and was ready so quickly. We were both impressed by the amount of shrimp and mushrooms in the bowl. And finally (this is how I know he really liked it), he asked if I could stock up on them as they would also make great busy weeknight meals.
What is one to do with all this extra time from not having to be in the kitchen for all of date night? Well I’m going to let you in on one of our secrets that has kept our marriage hopping over these last 10 years. Whenever we have a quiet date night in, the number one thing that must go down in our house is a crazy intense game of cribbage!
Ok, I’m seriously not joking! Ever since we were dating we have thoroughly enjoyed challenging each other at a cribbage tournament. It’s quirky, out of the ordinary, brings out both of our competitive sides, and makes us connect over something other than our favorite tv show. There is never a question as to what we are going to do on a date night as we both wish we had more time for cribbage games. Also, it has given us something fun to hunt for over the years as we almost have a unique cribbage board for every year of marriage. We have them in the shape of our state, a black bear from the Adirondacks, a mini one that fits in my purse, one that’s almost 100 years old.
So there you have it. Little secrets on how we are reconnecting after 10 years of marriage…a marriage that has yet to have a dull moment. People who know us definitely see the differences in us. But it is those differences, and the fact we can appreciate those differences, that have kept our marriage interesting and full of life. At the same time though we have found little things to connect over and haven’t let life get in the way of those sometimes silly things.
