Family is everything to me. Just ask my husband who picked up his life to move us back “home” to be local to my parents. Barely a day goes by where I’m thanking him for moving us back over 6 years ago now. And when I say local…I mean two streets away from my parents (and it is pure bliss being that close!)
You see my family has been there for me through it all. When I’ve had various health issues they have rallied around me to help wherever then can. Even if it meant trying 10 different bottles at all hours of the night for my little guy who would only nurse. Or letting themselves into my house to do endless loads of laundry so that when I was recovering I didn’t have to worry about that. They have literally always been there for me.
We also know how to play well and love doing the fun stuff of live together. Especially now that the holidays are upon us, we are almost inseparable with traditions around every corner. A new favorite is leave jumping while trying to get the yard cleaned up for the Thanksgiving holiday. The giggle, joy and belly laughs were to be had by all.
As soon as the Christmas decorations and accessories hit stores you can find my boys, and my mom and I at any local craft store hitting up the festive hats and goofy glasses. Selfies are always a must and are sent to a whole bunch of family and friends to share the silliness and joy.
Once the tree is up, it’s matching Christmas pjs every single night until the big day. The boys take turns each year being lifted high up to the ceiling by Daddy to put the star on top of the tree. Hot cocoa in seasonal mugs and plenty of cozy tree light pictures are taken to capture the Christmas magic.
What could possibly be better than baking cookies? Well baking Christmas cookies in matching Christmas pjs of course! Every year I’m beyond thankful to have numerous sets of little helping hands at my kitchen island. Some baking sessions it’s matching pjs, others it’s matching aprons. Either way, the kitchen is filled with Christmas music, more flour on the floor than in the actual recipe, and memories that will last a lifetime.
My family getting to stay together through the fun times and the tough times is of utmost importance. But I also wish for this on the families that are struggling through the season of having sick children. For them, being together all the time is not that easy. Enter Ronald McDonald House Charities. They are making it possible for families to stay together through this holiday season. And with a donation over at RMHC, you too can give the gift of togetherness.
A simple donation made while you are busy smiling and making memories with your family can help put smiles on the faces so many other families who’s wish this season is to simply be together.
