Homemade Bubble Solution with Duracell

Oh sweet, sweet summer days. Being a mom of boys means there is no shortage of outdoor time. Trust me when I say the bottom of their feet are stained from being barefoot all day long. But you know what, I love it…I absolutely love it. This is how I spent my childhood summer days: climbing trees (gasp! Yes, this long-legged girly girl knew how to climb a tree better than the rest of them!), playing with sidewalk chalk and blowing bubbles. Now, I must say that the way my boys “blow bubbles” has indeed become a lot more high-tech than when I was a little one. ​

I can’t even begin to tell you how many batteries we have gone through because of all the bubble making toys. Toys that make bubbles while roaring like a dinosaur, toys that blow bubbles inside of bubbles, and let’s not forget your good old bubble machine. Since we go through so many bubbles in the summer, the boys and I decided to give our hand at homemade bubbles, and the results were fabulous! Because we add both glycerin and corn syrup to our solution, these are some seriously strong bubbles! They don’t pop quickly, which leads to so much bubble chasing fun. Here’s what you need:

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • 3 TBSP blue dish soap
  • 1 TBSP corn syrup
  • 1 ½ tsp glycerin
  • Jar with lid
  • Bubble making machines

The great thing about this recipe is that you can double or triple it depending on how much solution you need.  Add the water to your jar. Slowly add the blue dish soap, corn syrup and glycerin. Gently swish it around a bit, being careful to not create bubbles in your solution. The solution comes together quickly, so there isn’t much stirring needed. All the bubble shown in the pictures in this post are using this bubble solution. You can see how many bubbles the boys could create in such a short time but also how they are gathering all in the grass…creating loads of bubble popping fun! ​
