Afterschool snacks…let’s be honest, more than not they are on the go, handed between kids in the back seat on the way to sports or lessons. But every once in awhile, we have an afternoon with no after school activities (oh so glorious!). The boys and I recently had one of those days so with their mommy in the mood to get super creative I set up a what was actually a very quick and easy DIY creative snack station! Wait till you see how easy it is to recreate these adorable owl toasts and spider crackers.
Before picking Carter up from school, Hunter and I headed to our local Walmart where we picked up all the snack items we needed, and for a fun twist on traditional raisins grabbed a box of Sun-Maid® Sour Raisin Snacks. Sun-Maid is already a brand we trust so I knew this would be a snack the whole family would love. We then purchased some of the boy’s favorite fruits to use like bananas and kiwi and restocked on pretzel sticks and round crackers. Hunter was so excited to see what mommy was going to come up with once we were back home with big brother!
Before we get into our easy DIY, I just have to tell you about the new to our family snack we picked up at Walmart. Sun-Maid® Sour Raisin Snacks come in two flavors: strawberry and watermelon. As I was setting up our snack station my two little taste testers got their hands on one of the individually packaged servings. I hear from Carter, “um so yeah, you can DEFINITELY pack these in my lunch tomorrow please.” Score! Especially because they are made with whole fruits, no added sugars, no GMOs, no synthetic colors and are gluten-free! While I’ll definitely let him bring a package into school tomorrow (he was excited to show his friends) I’ll also be packing these in my purse for a grab and go snack when we are on the go-to fuel, my little adventurers!
Now for these darling little owl and spider snacks. Just think with the spiders especially how darling they’d be served at a Halloween class party! Also, you’ll have to head over to Instagram and check out the highlight story of the boys teaching you all exactly how to make these treats.
Owl Toast:
Slice of favorite bread – toasted or not!
Kiwi – peeled, sliced and halved
Banana – cut into ½ inch slices
Peanut butter or nut butter of your choice
Whole Almonds
Sun-Maid® Sour Raisin Snacks
To make the bread look a little more like an owl I decided to cut off both sides and put it rounded side down. I even notched out little ears on the top, but you can totally leave it as is!
Spread an even layer of peanut butter on your bread, arrange the banana slices and Sun-Maid Sour Rain Snacks for eyes, kiwi halves for wings and almond for its little beak! Perfect for breakfast, a special lunchbox sandwich or get the kids involved in creating their after-school snack!
Spider Crackers:
For each spider cracker:
2 round crackers
4 thin pretzel sticks – broken in half
Cream cheese spread
Sun-Maid® Sour Raisin Snacks
Spread an even layer of cream cheese on one half of the cracker. Arrange the halved pretzel sticks for the spider’s eight little legs. Top with another round cracker (note: it’s important to make sure you have enough cream cheese for the filling, or the second cracker won’t stick on top of the pretzels). Dip a Sun-Maid Sour Raisin Snack into cream cheese to attach on top for little eyes!
Be sure to grab a box of Sun-Maid® Sour Raisin Snacks in either Strawberry or Watermelon flavor at your local Walmart. These delicious whole fruit snacks have a punch of flavor that is absolutely kid craved and mom-approved!
